Argus is the canonical data layer for the SLS air quality stack. It pulls from the UK’s main ambient monitoring networks, harmonises the data, and serves both narrative borough pages and the underlying API that Clara, RHEA and Hermes draw on.

The five South London boroughs currently covered — Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham, Greenwich and Wandsworth — are a showcase, not the limit. Argus can be deployed for any UK borough or region, with story-led borough pages under the council’s own branding and the same data infrastructure piped into internal dashboards or reporting workflows.

The design principle is honest context: a borough’s “baseline” reading (the air a typical resident actually breathes) is presented separately from “exposure hotspots” (roadside monitors, sited where exposure is highest by design). WHO guidelines and UK regulatory limits are visible on every reading, with the difference between them made explicit.
